Book Club

Just 14 books were borrowed the first day the Mothers and Teachers Club of School No. 1
opened a small circulating library there in 1919. The Library was quickly moved to the Main Street office of Burdett Real Estate. The Library was a success from the beginning. Formally incorporated in 1930, it resided in Borough Hall until 1971, when its present home at 320 Main Street was built.
90th Anniversary
As we celebrate 90 years, we reflect on the pride those five women founders of the Library would feel to know that what they started is now one of the busiest libraries in the county, with circulation topping 300,000 items in 2008. Special programs in honor of our 90 years will be happening in the coming months, with help from the Friends of the Library and the students of the Fort Lee schools. Looking back, clearly, the Library sprang from our community and is still very much at its heart in 2009.
